The Science of Eggnog
There's something deeply satisfying about the ritual of making eggnog from scratch. It's creamy and rich, with just the right amount of spice and a silky texture that puts the carton stuff to shame. Whether you spike it or not, it's a cozy classic worth slowing down for. But behind that smooth sip is a bit of kitchen science. Eggnog is essentially a stirred custard, and getting it right depends on understanding a few simple—but important—concepts.

Feliz Navidad!
Spending Christmas with family in Western Mexico while I was growing up was identity-forming for me. I loved the colours, the flavours and the way everyone in the neighbourhood seemed to take nochebuena (Christmas Eve) festivities more seriously than December 25 itself. It’s hard to recreate the experience for my own kids, who have never spent a holiday abroad—but cooking from those memories gets me pretty close.

Do You Need to Take a Multivitamin?
I'M A MULTIVITAMIN skeptic who has reported on women's health for more than two decades, but even I occasionally fall prey to a buzzy headline. Most recently, an article about the relationship between multivitamins and cognitive health sent me straight to the supplements aisle. But before I spent $20 on something I wasn't sure I needed, I decided to ask a few experts for their advice. Here's what they told me.

Kneadless to Say
FROM THE FIRST moment I tore into a loaf of no-knead bread, I was hooked: the crackly crust, the chewy, open crumb, the slightly tangy flavour. There's something magical about excellent bread that basically makes itself while you get on with your day.

The Okanagan Valley
THE OKANAGAN VALLEY has weathered a lot over the past two years. In 2023, wildfires saw residents evacuated and travellers sent home, while an extended cold snap wiped out entire crops of grape varietals in early 2024, a devastating blow to the winemaking region. But the week I spent there earlier this spring, travelling from Kelowna to Penticton to Osoyoos and back, made it apparent how optimistic and vibrant the region remains—and how ready they are to welcome visitors back. Every beach boardwalk and restaurant patio was buzzing with couples, kids and friend groups into the well-lit evenings, with the odd bachelorette party or two.
