Mind the gap: how to navigate a career break

One that hasn't garnered quite the same amount of attention perhaps because it's lacking a catchy name - is the uptick in workers taking formal career breaks.

A Vanguard report on retirement intentions published earlier this year found that two in five working-age Australians now expect to take an extended break at some point during their careers.

This is not only those who anticipate the need to take parental leave when they start a family. The research discovered that workers are also thinking more about pursuing further education mid-career, or simply taking off a decent chunk of time to recharge and reassess.
