A GEORGIAN-STYLE HOME IN COLORADO BALANCES FORMALITY AND FESTIVITY FOR A HOLIDAY STEEPED IN CELEBRATION

Although many families place their Christmas tree out of habit or tradition, Jim and Stacey McDonald approached their home’s design with entertaining—even the perfect placement of their trees—top of mind. Whether for garlands, wreaths, or any other festive flourish, the new build effortlessly balances style and function. Set on a little more than 4 acres in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, the house accom-modates every season, occasion, and reason to celebrate for a family that always finds many.

Jim and Stacey envisioned a home that would marry modern functionality with timeless heritage and tradition for their family that includes grown children Jackson, Charlie, and Molly and their significant others. They also needed the home to be welcoming to their loyal canines, Angus and Archie.

To bring this vision to life, they sought the help of Denver-based interior designers Martha Lord and Nancy Boland and architects Steve Ekman and Peter Boes, along with builder Paul Newmyer. The team relied on meticulous craftsmanship inside and outside the home, in grand scale and small.

Take, for example, the home’s facade, which captivates guests before they even step foot into the interior. The exterior is clad in weathered Colorado fieldstone that was sourced from Telluride. Its rich undertones harmonize effortlessly with the textured gravel motor court.

Inside, the fusion of past and present makes an appearance in the powder room, where an antique chest that was elegantly converted into a vanity is contrasted by new sconces.

Regardless of scale, each space in the traditional Georgian-style home gives way to details and decorations that are rich in character and brimming with Christmas charm.
