The Magician of Mud

Shipra Singhania, founder of Sketch Design Studio, is paving the way for sustainable architecture, one earth-friendly home at a time

Building sustainably with natural materials is the need of the hour, given the degrading climatic conditions and the construction industry's significant contribution waste and carbon emissions. In a quest to veer in this direction, Shipra Singhania started her Rajasthan-based practice Sketch Design Studio in 2014. Primarily using materials like mud, stone and lime with vernacular techniques, the natural builder and interior designer is not just making her mark, but creating an impact with her mindful design practices. "While working on a farm-to-table hospitality project, I began exploring mud as a material and developed a deep appreciation for its remarkable versatility. Since then, I have been captivated by mud and started incorporating it into my creative endeavours," shares the designer.
