Christmas may be the most wonderful time of the year, but it’s also one of the most chaotic. But with a little planning, you can be safe in the knowledge that all your decorations will be ready to go year after year.

But before you can store your decorations, you must remove them with care. ‘Place towels or throw blankets around the base of the tree in order to catch any fragile pieces that may fall as you remove them,’ advises Mac Harman, founder of Balsam Hill. ‘It's a good idea to work from the bottom of the tree up as working from the top down may mean you knock lower-hanging decorations. Whatever your system - be it ordering by size, shape, colour, texture - you should sort your decorations as you put them away.’
