HOW MUCH DOES CENTRAL HEATING COST?

One of the most significant investments you will probably ever make for comfort and functionality in your home is a central heating system. Not only does it warm the house, but it also adds energy efficiency to the building and increases the value of the property. However, the costs for central heating in any property can vary wildly depending on many factors, ranging from the type of boiler and radiators to the costs of installation and maintenance.

In this feature, we will look at all aspects of central heating costs, from how much you can expect to pay for different types of boilers to radiators or underfloor heating, controls and other key components. This way, whether you're planning to fit a central heating system in a new build or simply upgrade an existing home, you'll be able to budget more effectively and make informed choices regarding central heating installation.

OVERALL FACTORS IMPACTING CENTRAL HEATING COSTS

There are a number of factors that will influence the cost of a new central heating system and its installation, so keep these in mind when considering your likely costs.

Installation type In new builds, it's always far easier to install central heating. There are not as many barriers to routing pipework, installing controls and fitting radiators or underfloor heating. In many older properties or renovation projects, extra labour is usually needed to remove old systems, limited access to pipe routes and restoring or redecoration of the areas concerned afterwards. Sometimes, the cost of labour rises when there is a need to open up the walls or floors for pipe runs. This can drive up the cost — especially with the need to fireproof any voids.
