Perched on the crest of a hill in Victoria's Dandenong Ranges, Red Crest House stands as a striking example of mid-century modern-inspired architecture, seamlessly integrated into its natural surroundings. Located just an hour east of Melbourne, this thoughtfully designed rural retreat overlooks a peaceful pastoral valley, framed by mature oak and elm trees that provide a majestic backdrop to everyday life.

The owners, drawn to the beauty and stillness of the semi-rural site, sought to create a retreat that could be equally intimate and generous — designed for family life as much as for entertaining. They engaged Dion Keech Architects and renowned custom home builders Hedger Constructions to transform their vision into a timeless home deeply grounded in place, formed by design rigour and realised through impeccable craftsmanship.

The architectural layout responds to the site's topography, with two distinct wings subtly angled around a central courtyard. This spatial arrangement not only follows the contours of the land, but also creates a dramatic sense of arrival as the house gradually reveals sweeping valley views beyond the entry. Expansive cantilevered rooflines echo the bold silhouettes of mid-century design, lending the home a timeless, sculptural quality.
