PEACEFUL AND FEMININE WAS THE BRIEF for this Sydney home by Smac Studio, led by founder and principal Shona McElroy.

What is the project and what made it attractive to you? It's a three-bedroom, three-bathroom penthouse in Milsons Point, overlooking the Harbour Bridge and Lavender Bay. It was attractive for a multitude of reasons. The clients were wonderful - we clicked immediately - and the space was ideal for a renovation and had immense potential. Its natural aspect and view were stunning. Proximity to a public garden (Wendy Whiteley's) made the project feel a bit Parisian - sort of romantic and soft.

How did you become involved with the project? The client had seen our Light House project featured in Belle and reached out to us after reading about it.

What was the brief for the interiors? To create a light, bright, airy sanctuary - a space for entertaining that also reflected the clients' lifestyle. One of the clients, Von, used words like joyful, peaceful and feminine. She has a strong personal style and existing furniture that aligned naturally with our aesthetic at Smac Studio. We worked around how they live and designed a bespoke space.
