Stunning vistas, waterside deck, beautiful balcony – a former bank in a wonderful setting has become an extraordinary retreat

Many of us look back on 2020 as one of the most difficult years in our living history, and it was a time that Chris Maughan assessed his values, realising asecond home should become a priority. ‘I’d been looking for a place before Covid but not seriously. Then the pandemic came and it kind of brought a bit of reality back into life. After that I put some real energy into the property hunt,’ says Chris, who runs wholesale business Dragonfly Venture Group.

Drawn to the Cornish estuary town of Fowey, Chris had actually been to view another house when he saw the sale sign outside Trevail House in September 2020. ‘I poked my head through the door, saw the views, then called the estate agent,’ he says. The house is actually a Grade II-listed former bank. From street level, the layout opens out to reveal spectacular estuary vistas from a balcony and a lower deck and sun terrace with water frontage and a mooring.
