Whether it’s a new variegated cultivar or a compact hybrid of an established plant, there is always something new to add to the collection. In South Africa, that next entry onto the houseplant must-have list is Alocasia ‘Stingray’.

You would be forgiven for doing a double take walking past this plant in your local nursery. It features the tall and arching stems shared across the many alocasia species with one key difference – the leaves are shaped just like small stingrays. Pinched in at the centre, the tips of the leaves form long and narrow tails that stick out over the entire plant and look like nothing you have seen before.
