OUR JOURNEY SO FAR!
September 2023
|Kitchen Garden
Join keen allotment blogger and vlogger Jane Kelly as she recalls her allotment journey with husband Mike, dog Rocky and a little flock of rescue hens
We viewed our current plot in the summer of 2018. It had been empty for some time and a well-meaning neighbour had sprayed the lot with weedkiller to keep it 'under control'. Our previous allotment, although only a quarter of the size, had been nurtured for many years - the soil rich and teeming with life- and now we were faced with a large patch of parched earth. But we fell in love.
We were greeted by a double greenhouse housing a grapevine and, as we ventured up the plot, noticed a huge old apple tree which reminded me of the Faraway Tree from my childhood story books. Various smaller fruit trees led us to the ramshackle old shed at the back and my head was spinning. It was too big, there was too much to do, the soil was terrible. We said yes!
