The frozen berries help thicken the smoothie; plus, the seeds of frozen blackberries are softer than those of fresh berries. The earthiness of the beet juice balances the sweetness of the berries.

3⁄4 cup frozen blueberries

1⁄2 cup water

1⁄2 cup ice cubes

1⁄2 cup plain whole-milk strained (Greek-style) yogurt

1⁄4 cup frozen blackberries

1⁄4 cup fresh-pressed beet juice

Place all ingredients in a blender; process until smooth, 35 to 40 seconds. Pour into glasses, and serve immediately.
