Standing in a queue is an inescapable part of modern living, but SADAF SHAIKH asks us to consider if there is even light at the end of the line you're in.
-
On the way back to our hotel after spending the day at Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles, my husband and I debriefed breathlessly in the backseat of our Lyft. “The simulation rides gave me a headache; I’ve never wanted to punch a minion in the face more,” I confessed. “I hated getting wet on the Jurassic World ride,” he complained, “but those dinosaurs looked pretty real.” I told him how my heart almost stopped when the roller coaster had lurched backwards without warning during Revenge of the Mummy; he sheepishly admitted that he had popped an aspirin after the 3D Transformers ride. A small part of me wished I could have witnessed my husband’s face turning green from light turbulence rather than hear about it, but that view would've cost me a precious one and a half hours of park time. Instead, we made a pact that wasn't very typical of honeymooners: we would only use the single rider line and experience every roller coaster separately.
