If you've noticed skin changes from season to season, there are scientific reasons why. “Winter and summer provide different challenges to our skin,” explains Clare O’Connor, No7 senior research scientist in the UK. “During summer, skin tends to produce more oil and perspiration, which can lead to more visible pores, breakouts and shine.” This is largely due to being outdoors more often. “Our skin has to manage all of the additional challenges associated with higher ultraviolet light exposure,” says O’Connor.

On the flipside, winter brings other challenges. “The cold weather, indoor heating, lower humidity and lower activity levels lead to more concerns about skin dryness, redness and dullness,” explains O'Connor.
