The Gathering: Where chefs, artists, and strangers built a universe together

Some festivals feed you. The Gathering rearranges your senses and returns you to yourself slightly altered. After its critically-acclaimed debut in Delhi in 2025, Edition 02 descended upon Mumbai from 16-18 January 2026 – transforming Mukesh Mills into a three-day cultural maze where food, art, performance, and conversation fused into something Mumbai had never quite experienced before. And as expected, creative director and founder Sushmita Sarmah engineered the entire thing with a kind of meticulous chaos that only looks effortless in hindsight.

In Delhi, the surprise wasn’t how many people came – it was how many people stayed. “They arrived for a two-hour meal and stayed four hours more,” Sarmah explains. “They wandered into other concepts, hung out at the bars, talked to strangers... That completely changed how we built the next edition.” In other words, Edition 02 was engineered not for attendance – but for staying. So the festival expanded: More rooms, more corners, more invitations to linger, more reasons to keep walking even when you tell yourself you should go home.
