NOAH'S BIG COMEBACK

HE COULD not have scripted it better himself. Standing before the audience at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, Noah Wyle was a man who had finally climbed his own Mount Everest.

After five Emmy nominations for his beloved character Dr John Carter on the iconic medical drama ER he had finally won the big prize - 26 years after his first nomination.

"It feels incredible," he said afterwards, clutching his award for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for his role in The Pitt. "I mean, unexpected and very validating, humbling in a lot of ways. It's been a party I haven't been invited to for a while and I'm thrilled to be back."

The 54-year-old, who's also an executive producer on The Pitt, was on stage again to receive his second gong of the night when the show won the prize for outstanding drama series.

And one thing is certain: Noah is well and truly back in the spotlight.

After his breakout role in ER he should have had Hollywood eating out of his hand. But after he left the show in 2009 his career stumbled through a series of forgettable, short-lived roles that barely registered with audiences.

Then came The Pitt and everything changed.

The show, which is currently on M-Net, follows healthcare workers during gruelling 15-hour shifts in a Pittsburgh emergency room. The Pitt had a wildly successful debut season that didn't just revive Noah's career – it catapulted him back to the top.

His nuanced portrayal of Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch captured hearts, with critics praising Noah's return to the genre that made him famous. Already renewed for a second season premiering in January 2026, the show has revitalised Noah's faith in acting. He'd all but given up hope of being part of another successful show, he admits. "So for this focus to be on my work, it's really amazing."
