Lydia walks out on Sam, while Brenda decides to leave Pollard

Relationships are never a bed of roses in the Dales, and this week it looks like not one but two couples are headed their separate ways – Sam and Lydia, and Brenda and Pollard. Still, at least Brenda’s finally getting a storyline after months of just earwigging on other people’s conversations.

Lydia always feared her marriage wouldn’t survive her rape by Craig; deducing that Sam wouldn’t be able to look at her in the same way again. But it’s not intimacy – or lack of – that has driven a wedge between the couple, rather Sam’s failure to respect his wife’s wishes.
