When Nigel tipped up in Walford last Christmas, he claimed he'd split from wife Julie as she'd found herself a new fella. It transpired, however, that he was harbouring a heartbreaking secret - he'd been diagnosed with dementia and had walked out on his oblivious missus to 'spare' her the ordeal of seeing his mental and physical decline.

This week, 27 years after she and Nige left the Square to start a new life in Scotland, Julie returns. But where do she and her ailing husband go from here?
