Robert Bathurst's guest role as surgeon Russell Whitelaw in Casualty has placed him at the centre of a dark and shocking storyline. Previously introduced to the BBC1 drama as a skilled medic known for commanding the operating room, Russell's true nature has been revealed in current 12-part story Internal Affairs after he sexually assaulted nurse Rida Amaan (played by Sarah Seggari) and then physically attacked her when she attempted to record a confession.

Now, facing an investigation into his conduct, the manipulative medic resorts to blackmail and bribery in a bid to keep his reputation intact.
