Three years ago, University Challenge host Amol Rajan's father died suddenly after contracting pneumonia, leaving the journalist and broadcaster grief-stricken. Now, for his deeply personal BBC1 documentary Amol Rajan Goes to the Ganges, he hopes to finally come to terms with his loss by travelling to India and reconnecting with his Hindu roots.

'I was living life to the max when my dear dad died and I've been in a bit of a funk ever since,' says Rajan, 41, who was born in India but grew up in south London. 'I've sort of avoided thinking about him because I've found it too painful.
