A day of celebration became a day of devastation on 11 May 1985 when newly promoted Third Division champions Bradford City took on Lincoln City in their last home match of the season at their Valley Parade stadium.

Just before half-time, a small fire was spotted in the stadium's wooden main stand. Within minutes, it had grown into a raging inferno, trapping hundreds of fans inside.
