When Travis Kelce’s mom, Donna, was quizzed on her NFL star son’s relationship with Taylor Swift at the premiere of the Kansas City Chiefs documentary The Kingdom on Aug. 24, she answered with a knowing smile. “I think his mind is settled,” Donna, 72, told People. “That’s about all I can tell you. I think he feels calm, and he feels like he’s on a mission, and he knows exactly what he wants.”

Fans didn’t know it at the time, but it was already mission accomplished for Kelce. Just two days later he and Swift announced their engagement with a joint Instagram post, ushering in an exciting new era for the pop superstar and her athlete beau, whose two-year romance has enthralled fans in their respective spheres. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” read the caption, which was topped off with a dynamite emoji referencing their initial-based “TNT” nickname.

As of press time the post has been liked more than 35 million times and is the ninth-most-liked Instagram of all time.

The proposal—which came some two weeks earlier at Kelce’s Kansas City-area home, according to his dad, Ed—was a perfect representation of the couple, both 35, who started dating in the summer of 2023 after Kelce publicly declared his interest in pursuing Swift on his New Heights podcast.
