Dylan Wormsbaker died too young, but the father of 4 helped 102 people through organ donation. Now his family shares the story of the man who gave everything

On March 17, 2023, Dylan Wormsbaker spent some time playing with his then-2-year-old son Sawyer at his workshop in Twin Falls, Idaho, and then brought the little boy to his own parents’ home so that he could continue working on his beloved motorcycle.

Dylan’s dad, Curtis, still easily recalls some of the sweet moments of them together before tragedy struck. “That was the last day I saw my son alive,” he says.

What happened next left Dylan’s mom, Kim, 63, numb: A coworker alerted her to a “horrible” accident scene they passed by, and then Curtis, 59, called with confirmation that their 25-year-old son had been in a crash—hit by a minivan while cruising through town on his motorcycle. It wouldn’t be until about an hour later, and a long ride to a level 2 trauma center at Eastern Idaho Regional, that the Wormsbakers learned the full extent of Dylan’s injuries. He died of a traumatic brain injury one week later. (The driver of the van, Afton Gailfus, was convicted of vehicular manslaughter.)
