There are few things as cool as watching a mechanical shaker grab hold of a walnut tree and jiggle it. Or stepping a little away to avoid being showered by a rain of fresh walnuts. There is a certain timelessness in the air as you stand amid this gentle storm that is synonymous with the harvest season from early September to November in California's Central Valley.
