Erase an old iPhone

Q My disused iPhone 5 was registered to an old email address and I can't remember its password. How can I completely erase that phone?

If you have a Lightning cable to connect your phone to a Mac, you should try performing a Restore and so wipe its entire contents. Start with the iPhone shut down and connect that cable to your Mac. As soon as you connect the other end to your iPhone, press and hold the Home button until an icon of a computer and cable appears on the display.
