The Secret Keeper
August Second 2025

Shubhi was a quiet girl who loved immersing herself in the worlds of books, paintings and observing the world from her window. Her days were filled with the rustle of pages, the strokes of a paintbrush and appreciating the serene beauty of the outside world.
However, beneath this calm exterior lay a fear that overshadowed everything—sharing things about herself. This fear made her feel incredibly lonely and insecure, preventing her from truly expressing herself.
It wasn't that she didn't have friends. Vihaan, Vedik and Kavya were always by her side. Their laughter and camaraderie were a constant presence in her life. Even so, whenever they talked about their dreams, problems or funny stories, Shubhi just smiled and listened. She never spoke about herself.
What if they laugh at me?
What if they think I'm weird?
What if they tell someone else?
These thoughts built a wall around her, keeping her safe—or so she thought.
One warm afternoon, after school, Kavya and Shubhi sat under their favourite tree in the park. The branches swayed gently, casting shadows on the ground. Kavya was talking about how nervous she was about the upcoming dance competition, her hands gesturing animatedly as she spoke. Then she looked at Shubhi and asked, “You always listen to me. Don't you ever want to share something too?” Shubhi hesitated. Kavya was her best friend. Maybe... just this once.
Taking a deep breath, she whispered, “I—I’m scared of speaking in front of people. Even in class, when the teacher asks me something, I freeze. My mind just goes blank.”
Kavya’s eyes widened. Shubhi’s heart pounded. Oh no. She must think I’m pathetic. Why did I say that?

The Park Came Alive
The Koi fish living in Sangam Pond of Munia Park had lately become very sad. No one came near their pond anymore, while earlier, the place used to be full of morning walkers. In the evenings, women and children would gather there. The park always remained lively with people’s chatter and laughter.

GRAVE MISTAKES
“Here’s your new school,” Dad said as he pulled over at the gate of Silver Pines School. Courtesy of his dad’s frequent job transfers, Omi is always the new student. This was his fourth school in the last eight years. Standing at the gates of his new school, clutching his bag, he tried not to look nervous. His family had just moved to the town a week ago, and everything still smelled new—new books, new uniform, new trouble.
