MAGICAL BOOKWORM
February Second 2023
|Champak
Saurabh was a cheerful boy who studied in class 6. He loved reading books, mostly story books, but not his textbooks, as he found them boring.
However, his exams were nearing, so he had to concentrate more on his textbook now. He and his friends planned a group study to help each other.
He opened his maths textbook and began to do some sums. “I can solve only one problem," Saurabh grimaced.
"All the sums are so tough," cried Vipul.
"I think I need to practise maths more. My reasoning and analytical thinking are poor," Saurabh moaned.
Mita saw their sullen faces and smiled at them.
"First of all, don't be disheartened. Let me help you with the sums," Mita said.
After an hour of continuous practice, Saurabh was able to solve a few sums and finally relaxed a bit. The next day he went through the social science syllabus, but the words went over his head.
He went to his sister, Leela.
"Can you give me some tips on studying social science?" he asked.
"You can prepare notes of important topics for quick revision. You can also note down historical dates and events memorise," she suggested.
"Let me help you with a few chapters but I need a favour. What do you say Leela asked.
"Anything for explaining this chapter," he said.
"I need a reference book for my study. Can you please get it for me from the library?" she asked.
"Sure, I will," promised Saurabh.
Leela explained the chapters, and finally, they took a break for lunch.
After lunch, Saurabh went to the library. Mr Shetty, the librarian, peered through his glasses.

The Park Came Alive
The Koi fish living in Sangam Pond of Munia Park had lately become very sad. No one came near their pond anymore, while earlier, the place used to be full of morning walkers. In the evenings, women and children would gather there. The park always remained lively with people’s chatter and laughter.

GRAVE MISTAKES
“Here’s your new school,” Dad said as he pulled over at the gate of Silver Pines School. Courtesy of his dad’s frequent job transfers, Omi is always the new student. This was his fourth school in the last eight years. Standing at the gates of his new school, clutching his bag, he tried not to look nervous. His family had just moved to the town a week ago, and everything still smelled new—new books, new uniform, new trouble.
