Having worked together for more than two decades, Hugh Grant knows a thing or two about Renée Zellweger. “With a lot of other actors, you think they’re really great and then suddenly you see a little glint of steely, scary ambition and you realise this person would trample their grandmother to get what they want in this business, but I’ve never seen that glint coming off you, either it’s very well disguised or you are quite nice,” he told Bridget Jones co-star during a joint interview with Vogue. He described her talent as “un-f---king-believable” and said her Oscar-winning turn in Judy (2019) was one of the “greatest performances I’ve ever seen in my life.”

It’s obvious throughout their Vogue interview, conducted in the lead-up to this week’s release of the fourth Bridget Jones film, Mad About the Boy, that Grant is mad about Zellweger. And he’s not the only one.

Fans were thrilled when news broke that she would reprise her most beloved role for a fourth time. In an interview with WHO, the 55-year-old says it’s always been a matter of when. “Bridget Jones is a character I love,” she says with warm honesty. “I have always been very happy to play her. And to catch up with her at this stage of her life story is really fun, both personally and creatively. To get to play a character over such a long period and to experience how they have changed and evolved is something I feel so lucky to be a part of.”
