Zooey Deschanel didn’t set out to make a Christmas movie when she signed on to Merv, but she wound up delivering one of the holly jolly season’s most watchable romantic comedies. The actress, 45, stars in the sweet — if slightly chaotic — love story (Prime Video, streaming now) about Boston exes trying to coparent their pet, Merv, who is spiraling into a canine-size depression. When the vet throws out the term “Xanax,” Anna (Deschanel) and Russ (Charlie Cox, Daredevil) realize they have very different ideas about how to cheer up their heartbroken pup (and one of them involves dog yoga!)
