'I'm petrified about having another kid!'

Presenter Joel Dommett on preparing for baby number two, his relationship goals and the new series of The Masked Singer

It's been a busy few years for telly star Joel Dommett, who has been balancing his time between a hectic TV career and parenting his son Wilde, now two, with wife Hannah Cooper. And with another little one on the way, it looks like life won't be getting any calmer in the near future.

Despite being someone who “genuinely loves being a dad”, Joel, 40, admits he is experiencing quite a few nerves about growing their brood.

“We're excited, but I think 'petrified' is winning in the emotional state,” he jokes. “The idea of looking after one child is one thing, but the idea of another kid being there and you having to look after that one — I just can't imagine how chaotic it's going to be.”

Joel and Hannah, who have been together for 10 years and married for six, have decided not to find out the gender of baby number two. “There's no secrets any more, really,” says Joel. “So it's quite nice to have one thing that you can’t find out about and for people to be excited about.”

The couple always seem the picture of happiness on social media, but the star is quick to say that what they share publicly is only a “small snippet” of their life.

“Communication [in a relationship] is really important,” he says. “Making sure you air all of your graces and annoyances but also share the happy bits and help each other — it's difficult, but it's worth it.

“We have a genuine love for each other and respect, I think respect is probably one of the most important things — I couldn't imagine doing it with anyone else,” reveals Joel. And while he jokingly admits he and Hannah, 36, rarely have time for cheeky snogs since becoming parents, he says, “I love having a family, I love Wilde to bits, I couldn't imagine life without him.”
