Tracee Ellis Ross opens up about childhood dreams, simple joys and her beloved mom, Diana Ross

When your mom is legendary singer Diana Ross, you might think twice about pursuing a musical career. That's why Tracee Ellis Ross, 52, carved out an entirely different path, setting her sights on becoming an actress instead.

It worked out rather nicely for her, it's fair to say. She has earned a flurry of acting credits since making her film debut in the 1996 Jennifer Connelly drama Far Harbor and hit the big time with starring roles in award-winning sitcoms such as Girlfriends (2000 to 2008) and Black-ish (2014 to 2022).

The latest feather in her cap? A stint in the British anthology series Black Mirror. "Common People" is the sort of thought-provoking episode we've come to expect from the anxiety inducing Netflix series, with its unique brand of satirical social commentary. It's a deep dive into how future technology might be applied to save lives... but at what cost?
