Hello! Canada

In an extraordinary interview, the Prince of Wales shares his fierce desire to protect his family - and his vision for the monarchy's future

'THE HARDEST YEAR'

It's one of the most candid and heartfelt conversations Prince William has ever shared, and it offers a revealing glimpse into what drives the future King as a father, husband and son.

In a deeply personal and often humorous chat for Eugene Levy's show The Reluctant Traveler, the 43-year-old royal opens up about balancing work and family life, the impact of his parents' divorce, protecting his wife and children and his hopes for the next generation.

Taking the 78-year-old Schitt's Creek star on a private tour of Windsor Castle and a walk with the Wales family's cocker spaniel, Orla, William reflects on what kind of monarch he strives to be, while making it clear that he doesn't wake up thinking about being King.

image“To me, being authentic and being myself – and being genuine – is what drives me,” says William over a pint at the local Two Brewers pub. “I take my roles and my responsibilities seriously, but you don’t feel they own you – you have to own them.”

Asked if he feels the same about his 12-year-old son, Prince George, becoming monarch, the Prince of Wales explains, “I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do – a world and a job that actually does affect people's lives for the better. I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good.”
