From Mountains to Mega Watts: Introduction

In a world grappling with climate change and the pressing need for sustainable development, NHPC stands tall as a beacon of clean energy transformation. A NAVRATNA CPSE under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, NHPC has been mandated to plan, promote and organize the integrated and efficient development of power within & outside India. Since its inception in 1975, NHPC is leading India's charge towards a green, self-reliant energy future at present.

With a strong commitment to renewable energy, minimal carbon footprint and socioeconomic upliftment, today NHPC is not only a major contributor to India's energy grid but also a symbol of responsible and sustainable infrastructure development. Over the years, NHPC has built robust in-house expertise to execute hydroelectric projects seamlessly from conceptualization and detailed planning to engineering, execution and final commissioning.

Where we stand: Present Capacity

As of July 2025, NHPC has achieved an impressive installed capacity of 8,247.18 MW, powered entirely through clean energy, which includes 1,681.70 MW under Joint Ventures. This comprises 7,771.20 MW from 23 hydroelectric power stations, 425.98 MW from five solar power projects and 50 MW from a wind power project. NHPC's contribution of 7,771.20 MW in hydro accounts for approximately 16.21% of India's total installed hydro capacity.

Expanding Horizons: Projects Under Construction

NHPC, along with its subsidiaries and joint ventures, is presently developing 15 projects aggregating to 9,789.72 MW. These include:

Hydro Projects - 8,514 MW (8 Projects)

Solar Projects - 1,275.72 MW (7 Projects)
