Founded by three women in 2018, LadyAgri iruns programmes, events and partnerships across 17 countries with the focus on Africa. In its annual report, the organisation said it represented over 130 000 small and medium-sized farms run by women.
Founder and secretary-general Hilary Barry formed LadyAgri together with women who have roots in Africa, namely Aida Axelson Bakri and Ayélé Sikavi Gabiam.
Barry, who is originally from Ireland, is an avid supporter of a partnership between the EU and the African Union (AU). She decided to make an impact in Africa after an experience in Ghana in 1993 and has dedicated her career to social impact programmes across Africa.
She said: “By dedicating our support to women, we can be guaranteed that we are also investing in improving family livelihoods, improving opportunities for the next generation, positively impacting communities, and creating decent jobs and prospects.”
