Partnership to boost emerging farmers

A new initiative aims to empower developing farmers in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal and help them transition into small-scale commercial farms.

The Motsepe Foundation, in collaboration with Agri SA Enterprises, has joined forces with African Seeds Group (ASG) to launch the Illimalethu project, which forms part of the Inclusive Farming Partnership programme between the Motsepe Foundation and Agri SA.
The foundation said the project had been named Ilimalethu because it means “our crops” in isiZulu. The project is designed to provide participating farmers with access to essential resources and support services. This includes seed, fertiliser and agrochemical inputs, operational finance, agronomy support, as well as assistance in accessing offtake markets.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Additionally, the project will fund the development and upgrading of infrastructure such as irrigation and fencing on selected farms.
