Storeyboard Design crafts a jewel-toned workplace for Kalyan Jewellers in Mumbai

LEGACY IN LAYERS

Sharp lines, deliberate choices, and a narrative-driven core—the Kalyan India Business Center in Mumbai, by Storeyboard Design, isn’t just a corporate headquarters, it’s a manifesto. Spread across five storeys, the space unfolds like a visual biography, tracing Kalyan Jewellers’ evolution from its Thrissur origins to its bold, future-forward identity.

Every detail is calibrated to echo the brand's legacy while signalling its next chapter. With over 277 showrooms and a workforce of more than 8,000, the brand needed a new nerve centre — one that would embody its heritage while boldly stepping into the future. The brief to Bengaluru-based Storeyboard Design was unequivocal: create a space that celebrates legacy, luxury, and productivity, all while being rooted in vaastu and sustainability.

What emerged is a workplace like no other: a vertical tapestry of themed floors, each with its own architectural vernacular yet unified through an elegant design language that balances craft with contemporary edge. From glinting reception zones to dynamic creative hubs, the design speaks in the dialect of opulence, materiality, and mood.

An experiential prelude

The story begins on the ground floor — an immersive reception space that reimagines opulence through texture, translucency, and tactility. Constrained by site limitations, the design team employed creative spatial strategies that turn these challenges into design features.

Here, marble-finished floors anchor the space while a wooden ceiling studded with metal insets and a luminous golden jalli cast a glow of understated richness. The reception desk — a fluted stone monolith with an integrated planter — becomes a sculptural centrepiece, its concrete texture a grounding counterpoint to the gleam around it.
