NEED FOR POWER MANAGEMENT IN DATA CENTERS IN INDIA
June 2025

NEED FOR DIGITAL STORAGE
As this digital transformation accelerates, the demand for data storage, processing, and connectivity has fuelled exponential growth in the data center industry. For India’s digital ambitions to be both scalable and sustainable, effective power management in data centres is critical. The data centre market in India is witnessing strong and sustained growth, with projections indicating significant expansion in the years ahead. This surge underscores the critical need for robust and efficient power infrastructure. Government initiatives like the ‘Digital India’ program and the rising demand for cloud services also contribute to the growth of data centres. In a country where even brief power outages can disrupt services for millions, uninterrupted power supply is not just a preferenceit's a foundational necessity for digital resilience.
CHALLENGES FACED
Power reliability is the anchor to any data centre. A single second of downtime can mean loss of revenue, weakened customer trust, and data integrity risks. To combat this, operators are investing heavily in Intelligent Power Management (IPM) systems. These systems not only ensure continuous power flow but also integrate uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and backup generators to kick in during grid failures. Advanced IPM tools provide real-time energy monitoring, allowing rapid detection and correction of inefficiencies. In this environment, even milliseconds matter. Energy efficiency too, is a top priority. Data centres consume enormous amounts of electricity, not only to power IT equipment but also to cool the hardware operating round the clock. Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), a key industry metric, helps operators measure how efficiently they're using energy. Lowering PUE means reducing waste and redirecting more energy towards computing tasks.
