WYLOO IS LOOKING TO A NICKEL-RICH FUTURE AS IT FOCUSES ON DEVELOPING ITS PROJECTS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA AND CANADA.

NICKEL'S MOMENT TO SHINE

As the world shifts toward cleaner energy, nickel is set to play a pivotal role in this transition - and Wyloo, an emerging force in Australia's nickel industry, is primed to take advantage. Although nickel prices have experienced a recent downturn as a result of oversupply in Indonesia, Wyloo believes the metal will return to higher levels as the energy transition deepens.

Speaking with Australian Mining, Wyloo chief executive officer Luca Giacovazzi shared insights about the company's strategy, its environmental commitments, and if nickel prices will rise again.

"If you take a step back and look at the demand (for nickel), it has been growing consistently over the last 10 years," Giacovazzi said. "We see nickel as a core part of the clean energy transition and essential for EV (electric vehicle) batteries and renewable energy storage. The long-term fundamentals remain strong despite the recent price volatility."

According to analysis platform Benchmark, demand for battery nickel is expected to triple by 2030.

"Long-term demand prospects remain bullish," Benchmark said. "Benchmark projections indicate that nickel-based chemistries will capture 85 per cent battery cell production capacity outside of China by 2030, with production increasingly pivoting towards high-nickel chemistry longer term."

Giacovazzi knows the nickel market has faced challenges in recent months, but remains optimistic about the future.

"Indonesia has played a huge role in bringing new supply online, which has impacted the nickel price in the short term," Giacovazzi said.

"The market has seen too much supply too quickly, but we're starting to see that slow down and balance out."

With nickel being one of the essential metals for electrification, Wyloo is determined to ensure Australia remains a key supplier of high-quality material.
