Volkswagen ID Polo

Long-running small car joins the plug-in party; this fully electric model will be sold alongside the popular petrol-engined version

WITH THE NAME ‘Volkswagen Polo’ synonymous with small hatchbacks for more than 50 years, it's no surprise that the model's upcoming electric counterpart should go by a similar moniker. The ID Polo was previewed in 2024 by the ID 2all concept car and will sit below the ID 3 - itself expected to be replaced later this decade by an ID Golf.

The ID Polo will use a shorter, simplified version of the ID 3's underpinnings, with a starting price of £22k targeted. That puts it head to head with the Renault 5 (£23k) and makes it cheaper than the Peugeot e-208 (£29k) and Vauxhall Corsa Electric (£27k).
