This is not a normal SUV. The new Lucid Gravity is built for intellectuals, provoking contemplation over the state of the art, which in many ways it represents. As the Gravity rode this cutting edge into SUV of the Year, we dissected it over attributes that simultaneously inspire awe and incredulity.
Getting going in the Gravity isn't always easy. Whether using the key card, fob, or mobile app, unlocking the doors is wildly inconsistent. Once inside, it seems impossible to find a repeatable method of convincing the Gravity to start. We had similar issues with early examples of the Lucid Air, our 2022 Car of the Year, so we were perplexed by how the automaker still struggles with such basics years later.

Are pickups becoming caricatures of their former selves? They seem to grow larger and heavier with each successive redesign to the point where you need staircase tailgates just to load them. Swimming against this tsunami is the wee Ford Maverick, a pickup that allows normal-sized human adults to reach in over the side rail and grab items off the bed floor without even standing on tippy-toes. The climb into the bed is manageable without steps, and many tailgate partiers may find their feet resting on the ground. Revolutionary.
