An Ineos Grenadier pickup (aka Quartermaster) might seem an odd conveyance for my journey to Goodwood for the first day of the Revival, but it turned out to be thoroughly good news - first because of the surprising cruising ability and second because of the builtin comfort.

FRIDAY
Recaro may have recently caused Ineos a load of trouble with a pause in deliveries but, when they're actually installed, its seats are still better than most for firm, well-shaped long-distance comfort.
It took me a while to get to grips with the Grenadier's unusual controls and switchgear (the work of architect and yacht designer Toby Ecuyer). For several minutes I didn't even realise it had a simple key start. But once I learned its ways, I enjoyed the Grenadier a lot, especially its evident durability and very good build quality.
The colour, irreverently described by someone as hearing-aid beige, wouldn't have been my first choice, but in most other respects I warmed to it.
I had expected my own Ford Ranger Raptor to be superior in most ways (and it was in some) but ended up deciding the pair were good rivals.
The main Ineos bugbear still seems to be a shortage of buyers. Here's hoping potential customers wise up.

I recently acquired this slightly rough-around-the-edges 2004 Alpina Roadster for a more than reasonable sum.

Terrible, terrifying and yet tremendous
\"I could drive it to the moon and back and run over everything on the way,\" says Tom Exton about his Brabus Mercedes G500 4x42, also known as the G500 Squared. I don't doubt it. In addition to the 'regular' Squared's gains over the standard G500 (more than twice the ground clearance, thanks to the fitment of portal axles, a wider body, deeper wading capability, larger 22in wheels and steeper approach and departure angles), its Brabus-tweaked bi-turbo 4.0-litre petrol V8 produces 493bhp, up from 416bhp.
