Mercedes UK's prices for what will be the range-topping CLE, at least until the AMG versions appear, had still to be confirmed as these words were written. But if a fairly well-equipped example of one of these six-cylinder coupés costs its owner much less than £70,000, I'll eat my downloadable brochure and price list.

The very existence of this car confirms, at least, that there must be some E-Class under the skin of the CLE, because the current C-Class was famously the first car of its lineage to be designed for no engine larger than four cylinders.
