Traditionally, Lamborghini has always been an ultra-niche supercar brand that has on one hand made some of the most iconic cars that the world has ever seen but on the other, struggled to maintain relevance and viability. After the nearly decade-long ownership by the founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini, the company has undergone six ownership changes including spending a seven year period in receivership. However, after being acquired by Audi AG in 1998 sales picked up from low three-digit numbers to low four-digit ones until the launch of the super SUV.
