● Skoda inspired to expand its EV plans after success of Enyaq iV
● Updates also planned for Octavia, Kamiq and Scala ICE models
SKODA has had a smash hit with its allA electric Enyaq - now the is set to build on its already-ambitious plug-in plans by introducing six new models within the next four years - including a baby SUV and a rakish wagon that's the spiritual successor to the Octavia estate.
The VW Group brand already had plans to introduce three fresh EVs by the second half of the decade, including a seven-seat flagship previewed by last year's Vision 75. However, the firm has elected to increase its investment in electrification, expanding the plan to include not only facelifted versions of the existing Enyaq SUV, and its coupéSUV sibling, but also an extra all-electric model new to the Skoda line-up.
Arguably the most significant of the new arrivals could be the as-yet-unnamed small SUV. Our exclusive image shows how it is likely to look once Skoda moves the car beyond the official 'sculptures' that it has used to tease its proposed EV range.
It will be based on the VW Group's MEB Entry platform, shared with the production version of the recent ID.2all concept (which is likely to be called ID. 2 in production form and spawn an additional ID. 2X small SUV), and Cupra's UrbanRebel concept.
Skoda says its offering should be 4.1 metres long - a couple of centimetres longer than the VW supermini - and offer the same boot space as the current Scala, so around 460 litres. It should feature much of the same technical make-up as the VW, with a front-mounted motor producing 233bhp, and a choice of battery capacities (38kWh and 56kWh) for a range of up to 280 miles. The car is due in 2025, when it will go into production alongside the Cupra in Spain, and should cost from £22,000.
