Advanced Tyre Manufacturing Facility For Sustainable Innovation
October 2025
|Auto Components India
Located in Sriperumbudur, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu, the JK Tyre Chennai Plant represents a key milestone in the company's manufacturing expansion.
-
The land for the facility was acquired on 29th May 2010, and the plant was commissioned on 5th February 2012. Spread across 102.95 acres, including a 37.76 acre built-up area and a 25-acre green belt, the plant is designed to balance operational capacity with environmental considerations. Situated approximately 49.6 km from Chennai city and 52.8 km from the port, it benefits from strong logistical connectivity.
Since its inception, the plant's production capacity has increased significantly, from 90 tons per day in 2012 to a projected 350 tons per day by 2025, serving both Truck and Bus Radial (TBR) and Passenger Light Radial (PLR) categories. Developed with an investment of over Rs. 2,600 crore, the Chennai Plant contributes nearly 20 per cent of JK Tyre's consolidated turnover.
Features of the Plant
The JK Tyre Chennai Plant is located in Tamil Nadu's automotive hub, providing logistical advantages and proximity to major vehicle manufacturers. The facility incorporates a high level of process automation, supported by Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy. It follows established Manufacturing Excellence frameworks, including Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Total Quality Management (TQM), to maintain consistent operational standards. The plant emphasises sustainability through the use of 7.5MW of rooftop solar power and 24MW of wind energy, ensuring maximum utilisation of renewable resources. Since its inception, it has operated as a zero liquid discharge plant. The adoption of British safety best practices further supports a strong safety culture and continuous improvement across operations.
