Ice-cool Scandinavia is St Leger hero

TOM MARQUAND and the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt, Scandinavia, landed the Betfred St Leger in a thrilling battle to the line.

Showing real tenacity, the huge-striding son of Justify repelled a three-pronged challenge from fast-finishing runner-up Rahieeb (Ray Dawson), with Scandinavia’s Ballydoyle stablemates Stay True in third and dual Derby winner and longtime leader Lambourn fading for fourth.

“Scandinavia has the most beautiful temperament and everything reiterated to me by Aidan, [and previous jockeys] Ryan Moore and Wayne Lordan was that he was just so straightforward,” said the winning jockey, who racked up a four-timer at the Festival.
