Influx of new buyers pushes up prices of amenity land at auction

lan Kitson Director, Cheffins reflects on why the market for grazing land land is on the up

“The habits of buyers in the auction room have long been indicators of what is going on in the wider economy, and we have seen a significant uplift in buyers looking for amenity land to buy themselves more space and more of a hold on the ‘great outdoors.’ These buyers are more frequently taking the form of those who have bought properties with smaller gardens but are seeking out parcels of land of their own for fun at the weekends, be that ‘living on the wild side,’ camping out or making dens with the children. These people have come into a market which was already pretty healthy, with a strong buyer base of amenity land already in place, including farmers, smallholders, investors with the hope of buying land for development, neighbours protecting their boundaries or those in search of grazing.
