We spend so much time fussing over our tresses—washing, styling, and worrying about what to do with them next. And yet, most of us don’t know too much about the basics in hair care and styling. Let these four hair maestros clue you in on what you’re doing right and what you’ve got all wrong— with no consultation fees involved.

Spill the beans

Most professionals have their own hair care secrets. “I have short, thin textured hair,” revealed Pooja Salva, Creative Director, Hair at MyGlamm. When asked to disclose her best hair tip, she stated, “for quick styling, I like to rough dry it upside down with a blow-dryer which gives me loads of volume, and then finish by smoothening sections with a round brush.” Nikhil Sharma, Art Director at Toni&Guy Salons, North Delhi affirmed that his best advice was to never leave the house with wet or damp hair. “If you’re in a rush, at least apply a dab of argan oil to your mane and finger dry it.” Deepti Samtani, Senior Stylist at Nalini of Nalini & Yasmin Salon Pvt. Ltd., suggests using rollers to add bounce instead of a hair dryer.
