Whatever the case, it’s a species that has handled its PR brilliantly, leaving expectations regarding their behaviour spectacularly low. This means that the slightest sign of one of their number – perhaps even just a reasonably clear print of one of their weirdly shaped rear paw/foot/talon thingies – is reason for completely out-of-proportion celebration, as though you’ve found the sweat-stained scarf Elvis wore during his final concert in Market Square Arena in Indianapolis on 26 June 1977 behind the yoghurt at Pick n Pay.
