​Kwiatkowski Confirms Status With Canny Milan-San Remo Win

Former world champion returns to form with tactically perfect ride.

Team Sky’s Michal Kwiatkowski confirmed his status as one of his generation’s Classics greats when he edged ahead of Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) to win the Milan-San Remo Classic on Saturday.

Despite wining the 2014 World Championship title the Pole had only 16 pro wins going into Saturday’s race and, although touted as a prodigious talent, he had yet to bag a Monument win. By comparison Sagan, who raced against Kwiatkowski when they were juniors, has a palmarès stretching to 92 wins, including two World Championships and the 2016 Tour of Flanders.

That, combined with a lacklustre Sky debut year in 2016, had left critics asking, ‘What happened to Kwiatkowski?’
